Velankanni Church

The main statue that they had brought to the altar of the Shrine was Our Lady holding the Baby Jesus, standing majestically on the globe. The Gothic style of architecture is a unique feature of the church. The church itself is an imposing building with inspiring architecture. While the buildings have been painted white, the roof of the church is made of striking red tiles in contrast to the colour of the walls.

Morning Start Church

In the year 1771, Velankanni acquired the status of a Parish with Fr. Antonio de Rozario as the First Parish Priest. Velankanni church was raised to the status of basilica in 1962 by His Holiness Pope John XXIII. Velankanni beach are very famous beach in tamilnadu. It is located few metres away from Velankanni church. Near to this beach there are small shops for ornaments toys shell craft etc. Fish fries are very famous and tasty.

Velankanni Beach

Take bath in the sea and viewing the sunset & sunrise will give you a new experience. Sikkal is situated about five kilometers from Nagapattinam. And this temple is also one of the divine spot one must have to visit. Actually this is a Saiva temple with Lord Siva bearing the name Śrī Navaneetheswara. But the main deity is Lord Subrahmanya called Singaravelavar. This temple is older than 1000 years. As per Thala purana this place is where sage Vashistar had his ashram.

Sikkal (Temple)

A popular temple in a small village called Sikkal, the presiding deity in this temple is Singaravelar (Lord Muruga). Lord Navaneetheswarar (a form of Lord Shiva) with his consort Nedum Kanni Amman (Goddess Parvathi) are also installed in this temple.

Kodiyakarai Forest Wildlife

Kodiyakarai is known for its forests. In kodiyakarai, “Point Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary” is located and it is around 21 square kilo meters. The sanctuary was created in 1967 to protect the endangered species. This place is featured in the famous tamil novel “Ponniyin selvan”. It has the temple that has been worshiped by Nayanmars.

Dutch Fort Tharangambadi

Built in the Danish style, the fort Dansborg is a Danish fort and which lies along the coastline and is characterized by large halls and rooms. The fort itself one outside is majestic to look at. In the early days of the construction of the fort there were a lot of settlements around it and the region was a thriving one.
